350 Sacramento

I started volunteering with 350 Sacramento in 2011 and watched us grow from a handful of strangers to an official 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. I worked to legitimize us as an organization and align our messaging and branding with a positive and fun attitude (as opposed to any doom-and-gloom narratives). I wanted to ensure we would be taken seriously not only by potential volunteers, but also by the city, local businesses, other stakeholders, and, hey, maybe even the state.

I don't have a background in graphic design, so I'm proud to see how far I've come in creating flyers and graphics, as well as migrating, redesigning, and managing the website. I've since passed the torch, but I'm really happy with the direction they're heading in, even if I'm less happy with the direction of climate change.

Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California

Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California is the California arm of the national Planned Parenthood nonprofit organization. The amazing staff and volunteers for these organizations advocate for unrestricted, nonjudgmental access to reproductive health care for all. Yes, including abortion. #AbortionIsHealthCare

As Digital Coordinator for Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, I got the occasional opportunity to create graphic design assets beyond my regular scope of work.

My favorite project was for their 2017 Capitol Day event with the theme of Protect. Empower. Persist. I designed a 28-page booklet for the big lobby day (which fit into our retro fanny packs and included a hand-drawn map of the Capitol and our event setup), along with some super cute illustrations for a button-making station.

CommuniTree Committee

The CommuniTree Committee is a local group of volunteers who coordinate with the Sacramento Tree Foundation to plant and maintain trees spanning two neighborhoods.

Similar to my work with 350 Sacramento, I wanted to legitimize this small group of volunteers to the rest of the neighborhood. Their work is important and simple: Help neighbors plant and maintain their shade trees, subsequently saving energy, reducing pollution, encouraging non-motorized traffic, etc.
